I would like to use the second serial port on /dev/tts/1. Any idea how to set this up? Where to connect to?

Hi Jeff, I'm following your great project up to this point. I got the header pins installed, but I couldn't get it to talk to the Sparkfun FTDI basic breakout 3.3v that I got. Perhaps I broke a trace while desoldering.

I went ahead and installed openwrt using one of the ethernet ports and the packages using wireless telnet and it's working! Your instructions are great.

If i can't fix the header, can I use a USB hub and USB serial to talk to the arduino? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

Many thanks.

awesome project! thanks for documenting this so well.

i have a question about the serial port though; do i HAVE to install this? i had fiddled with dd-wrt firmwares for the 520gu before, and am comfortable tftp'ing a firmware file into the router, and subsequent configuring, but do i have to use a serial interface to interact with it? can i not just upload a pre-compiled open-wrt binary firmware file, and telnet/ssh into the wee beast to install/configure smb, mpd, mpc et al? this would be ideal, for i am not a truly reliable solder-er, and would like to avoid hardware hacking if i could.. is this possible?

much thanks again..

Dan,

The USB-audio adapter is connected to the USB port of the router, while the serial port we're using in this part is the one that we connect to via the 4-pin header inside the router. So there isn't a conflict.

If you wanted to use an external USB to serial converter instead (which is definitely doable), then you'd have to add a USB hub to the router to get a second USB port so you could have USB audio and USB serial at the same time.

Hi Jeff- this looks good, but isn't the serial port already going to be busy sending audio information to the USB Stereo Audio Adapter? How can both the audio-out and the song display be used at the same time?
