Re: Functional surface mount equivalent for FJN3303F?

Cool! Please share your design when you're finished, I'd love to see it. Of course! Wouldn't feel right if I didn't. After all, being open source, I'm sure someone would want to mess with the design at some point. I actually didn't change much of your original design. In fact, this was the first fu...

Re: Variable Resistor

I checked the BOM here: http://mightyohm.com/files/geiger/geiger_counter_bill_of_materials.pdf It does state that the value is 100 in the BOM, but the description says "Trimmer Resistors - Single Turn 3/8 10ohms 10% 0.5Watts Square" I think it's just a misprint in the BOM because it's in t...

Re: Functional surface mount equivalent for FJN3303F?

You could ask Duane what he is using in his SMT version: http://blog.screamingcircuits.com/2011/08/open-source-the-eskimo.html The STL128DN looks like a really good substitute for the FJN3303. I think it's definitely worth trying out. If you're going to be playing with the HVPS it is really helpful...

Functional surface mount equivalent for FJN3303F?

As some of you know, I'm turning out a design for a totally surface mount model of the geiger counter and running into a little trouble finding a functional replacement for the FJN3303F (it only comes in a TO-92 Package). So far, the closest match I can find is the STL128DN: http://www.st.com/intern...

Re: Why the preference of the SBM-20?

Thanks, I will design this into my surface mount design as a capable alternative. I'm almost there!

Re: Why the preference of the SBM-20?

Awesome. Let me draw something up and get a dorkbot order in and I will report back my findings!

Question, I assume that the second contact goes on the large flat surface on the backside of that tube, correct?

Re: Why the preference of the SBM-20?

I had come across the GStube website already, and I agree, it's a excellent reference. I agree that the SBM-20 is the ideal candidate, but I was just hopeful :-)

Re: Why the preference of the SBM-20?

Well, really, I was just exploring the other tubes you've designated on the board in the course of learning. I want to build a few of the units as is, but I'd really like to design (or see one designed) a board that would fit inside of the footprint of an Altoids tin (I have a friend who shipped me ...

Why the preference of the SBM-20?

Hey Jeff,

Just wondering why you prefer the SBM-20 over the other tubes that might be used in your design. Any loss of functionality by using others? I notice they are glass in nature, but can't seem to figure out the differences otherwise besides form factor.
