Position of a geiger tube

Hello. I'm building my own Geiger counter and I was wondering if position of the tubr matters, and if so, how? I mean if the tube is perpendicular or parallel to the source.

If it's parallel it should collect more radiation, but the counters I've seen online have the tube in either direction. So does it matter or does the change is so little that it doesn't matter?

The orientation of the tube definitely affects the sensitivity. It should be parallel to the source to maximize sensitivity.
