Help Hack WL 520GU

Post by zordlyon »

Hi people, i buy one WL520GU for a arduino project....

With the metod of the restoration tool i has installed the DD-WRT in my router...

but my question is if with the DD-WRT i can comunicate with the arduino?

And my other question, i has made a serial cable to comunicate with the serial of the ASUS but i'm not sure it will work...and after i burn my serial port i need the sure it will work and what i did is in this photos:

the links are left to right...
Asus - GND - TX - RX - 3v3
Cable - GND - RX - TX - (unplugged)

The conversor is one USB-RS232 conversor...
Is anything wrong?
My question is, i can connect to my computer this way??

Thanks everyone, and sorry for my english (i'm portuguese)..

No, that probably won't work. You need a USB to serial converter that outputs 3.3V TTL levels, not RS-232 levels. The DB-9 connector is a giveaway that you are using the wrong kind.

I like the FTDI 3.3V cable here:

I've heard you can also use some Nokia cell phone cables if you take them apart...

Apparently you need to get the CA-42 and the CA-53 won't work. :(

I just have buyed a cable of adafruit, i have finded one.. :D

The DD-WRT is gona work with arduino?
Or what is the firmware you recomend install? If it the Open-WRT you recomend install with the mode of "restoration tool" or via serial??

You can post the link of the recomended firmware if the DD-WRT is not the best solution please?

My project consist in send information via wireless to an arduino and the arduino control 2 motors, and 1 webcam link to USB of the router..and send images to a computer via broadcast...

Thanks very much for the help...

I gona publish your help on my project...

I would suggest using OpenWRT as in the WiFi Radio guide. You can load DD-WRT on the router and it will work, but it seems much more specific for actual network/routing and a bit harder to customize. There are at least a couple docs/blogs on making custom OpenWRT packages, wheras I could not find very good information on doing the same for DD-WRT. Too much hassle with DD-WRT, I would stick with OpenWRT.

I would also suggest loading it via TFTP or restoration tool.

I don't know anything about the restoration tool. Is this something that runs on your PC, or via a web interface on the router??

I always use tftp, it is harder to learn but I know it works with the openwrt firmware images...
