How does he INST mode work?

Post by PimV »

Could you/anybody explain precisely what is happening in the INST mode?
The only thing I can find about it is in the users manual:
"Finally, if CPS > 255, we report CPS*60 and switch to INST mode, since we can’t store data in
the (8-bit) sample buffer."
And that doesn't shed much light on it.

INST mode reports counts per minute based on taking the number of counts over the last second and multiplying by 60. Unlike the other modes, there is no averaging of counts over multiple seconds.
