Heatsinking?

Post by hal »

gutshot, 3/4 of the way down, heatsink on the processor is visible.

Running more programs than just router firmware makes it hotter than it would normally be? What do we think?

By the way, sweet build!

Not a bad idea at all. In fact, I have seen a heatsink installed like that before. If the author did not install it, it's possible that Asus included it on some serial numbers. I have asked the author (Gary) and will post back here if he replies.

Gary's response:
The heat sink was an add-on simply because I felt the chip was getting overly warm while streaming. It may not help as much as I'd like to believe, but can't hurt. I'll make a note to clarify that I added it myself on the project page.
Looks easy enough to add. Just put a dab of thermal epoxy on the CPU and stick on a TO-220 heatsink of your choice.
