Mims III&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/blog\/2008\/12\/the-greatest-electronics-book-ever-written\/\">Getting Started in Electronics<\/a>, one of the best books out there for someone who wants a thorough, yet unintimidating introduction to electronic components and circuits.<\/p>\n<p>From the mid-1980&#8217;s through the late 1990&#8217;s, Forrest Mims also published several mini-notebooks, each dedicated to a specific topic in electronics.\u00a0 Each mini-notebook contains 50 pages of circuits, electronic concepts, and project ideas.<\/p>\n<p>The complete set includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>555 Timer Circuits<\/li>\n<li>Basic Semiconductor Circuits<\/li>\n<li>Communications Projects<\/li>\n<li>Digital Logic Circuits<\/li>\n<li>Environmental Projects<\/li>\n<li>Formulas, Tables, and Basic Circuits<\/li>\n<li>Magnet and Sensor Projects<\/li>\n<li>Op-amp IC Circuits<\/li>\n<li>Optoelectronic Circuits<\/li>\n<li>Schematic Symbols, Device Packages, Design and Testing<\/li>\n<li>Science Projects<\/li>\n<li>Sensor Projects<\/li>\n<li>Solar Cell Projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I had a few of the originals when I was growing up and wish I had kept more of them.\u00a0 I specially remember reading the Optoelectronics Circuits Mini-Notebook in High School.\u00a0 I attempted to build the optical communicator entirely with parts from Radio Shack, which was very difficult 15 years ago, and would be pretty much impossible today!<\/p>\n<p>Updated\/compiled versions of the notebooks are available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forrestmims.com\/engineers_mini_notebook.html\">Forrest Mims&#8217; website<\/a>, but many of the originals can be found used for less than a few bucks each <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D0%26ref%255F%3Dnb%255Fss%255Fb%26y%3D0%26field-keywords%3DEngineer%2527s%2520Mini-Notebook%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Dstripbooks&amp;tag=mightyohm-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957\">on amazon.com<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=mightyohm-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I previously posted about Forrest M.
