{"id":3522,"date":"2011-01-10T14:23:56","date_gmt":"2011-01-10T20:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/blog\/?p=3522"},"modified":"2022-12-28T14:59:39","modified_gmt":"2022-12-28T22:59:39","slug":"alis-surplus-stuff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mightyohm.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/alis-surplus-stuff\/","title":{"rendered":"Ali&#8217;s Surplus Stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over the holidays I had a chance to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/daviswiki.org\/Surplus_Stuff\">Ali&#8217;s Surplus Stuff<\/a> in Sacramento, CA.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/files\/flickr\/5292042735_4c04635c0e.jpg\" alt=\"Ali's Surplus Stuff\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is my kind of place. \u00a0Surplus electronics piled from floor to ceiling. \u00a0Lots of oscilloscopes and useful stuff mixed in with bizarre industrial equipment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/files\/flickr\/5291976591_e10cecf167.jpg\" alt=\"Ali's Surplus Stuff\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lots of cool rack-mounted equipment here. \u00a0Lots of push-buttons too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/files\/flickr\/5291979099_2fd51ce7ef.jpg\" alt=\"Ali's Surplus Stuff\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Need a random computer-related printed circuit board?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"hhttp:\/\/mightyohm.com\/files\/flickr\/5292642418_a14013aeda.jpg\" alt=\"Ali's Surplus Stuff\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My recommendation for places like this is always to come to the counter with the biggest pile of stuff you can carry and haggle on a single price for everything. \u00a0You&#8217;ll end up paying a fair price for one or two big items and getting the rest thrown in &#8220;for free&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/files\/flickr\/5292077445_02dbed0324.jpg\" alt=\"Ali's Surplus Stuff\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what I went home with: HP chart recorder, some IC sockets, webcam stand, random RF module, and some kind of\u00a0monitor\u00a0shutoff device from back when &#8216;green&#8217; was just a color. \u00a0This is a remarkably small pile of stuff given what was available, but I knew I would have to pack all this into my checked luggage on the flight home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/files\/flickr\/5292077775_663c83cbbc.jpg\" alt=\"Surplus finds\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was my first visit to Ali&#8217;s, and I came home really impressed. \u00a0I can&#8217;t think of a better place to find surplus electronics junk in the Sacramento area, especially now that HSC Electronics on Auburn Blvd. is gone. \u00a0I also feel that if you are looking for used industrial and test equipment, Ali&#8217;s has a better selection than Bay Area shops like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weirdstuff.com\/\">Weird Stuff<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0I will definitely be visiting Ali&#8217;s again the next time I&#8217;m Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p>Ali&#8217;s Surplus Stuff is listed under <a href=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/wiki\/resources:surplus#sacramento_area\">Sacramento Area<\/a> on the <a href=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/wiki\/resources:surplus\">resources:surplus<\/a> page of the <a href=\"http:\/\/mightyohm.com\/wiki\/\">MightyOhm Wiki<\/a>. \u00a0Whew!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the holidays I had a chance to visit Ali&#8217;s Surplus Stuff in Sacramento, CA.
