Re: Can't ping www.google.com
nvram config is obsolete and shouldn't affect anything on this version of OpenWrt - use the config files instead. Comment out the "option bridge" line in the lan config and edit the rest to make it look like this: #### LAN configuration config interface lan #option type bridge option ifnam...

Re: Install SqueezeSlave?
Tim, You would have to cross-compile it from source using the OpenWrt build system. It looks like a compiled version for Linux is ~500kB, so there is some hope that you could fit it onto the onboard flash of the WL-520gU. SqueezeSlave also uses OSS, which is a good sign, since that is what mpd uses....

Re: Playing MP3 files off a PC
My (flawed?) philosophy thus far has been that if you want to play with packages that are outside the scope of the wifi radio project, you really should get access to a Linux box and set up your own build environment so you can compile your own. My reasoning for this is that if you are tinkering wit...

Re: Router is overheating
The CPU does get pretty hot, so what you are feeling might be normal. It is possible that you shorted one of the serial pins when you soldered the header. Check your solder joints and make sure there aren't any solder bridges to any adjacent pins or traces. If you don't get any LED activity or can't...

Re: Any suggestions about using an NSLU2 instead?
Should be doable, and I'm pretty sure it has been done before. There's some info here: http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/SlugAsAudioPlayer You won't be able to use the files on this site because the architecture is different, but assuming you are comfortable compiling your own kernel, you should...

Re: Can't send commands to ASUS via serial
Thanks mike! Sorry to hear you are having issues with the serial port. Here's a small checklist that might help people who are having serial problems: 1. Are you using the correct USB-Serial cable? The router expects a 3.3V TTL level serial signal. Most off the shelf USB-Serial converters won't work...

Re: How to play MMS protocol streams
I posted this to the blog yesterday: mpd 0.15 (curently in beta) is supposed to have support for MMS. There may be some work required to port it to the router. mpd 0.14 became very bloated and was pushing the flash capacity of the 520 due to a glib2 dependency. I listen primarily to Shoutcast so I h...

Re: WL-520gU Project - Floating Camera
I love it! How are you controlling the router's movement? I see some sort of web interface on your laptop, are you running a web server on the router or sending commands via some other means?
Nice work!

Part 10 is up now: http://mightyohm.com/blog/2009/05/building-a-wifi-radio-part-10-building-the-box/ I'm hoping that at some point, Tony will write a post about how he fabricated the box. I was there for 2 days of the 2 month process, and I know it involved a lot of cutting, sanding, and filing. No ...
