Neat idea, but there is a little obvious irony here… Smoke stack is result of power plant which powers laser. The commentary on pollution itself causes pollution, and by the brightness of that beam, not a trivial amount… .
Given the abysmal energy efficiency (<0.01%) of most lasers, I definitely see your point.
