Last week I started blogging over at Make:SF, home of the unofficial San Francisco Make: fanclub.
Expect to see me posting over there occasionally about events, meeting recaps, and other goings-on.
As resident WordPress guru I’ve also been making some tweaks to the site to make it better serve club members.
Make:SF typically meets at TechShop in Menlo Park on the 1st Sunday of the month, and recently has also been meeting at Instructables HQ in San Francisco on the 2nd Tuesday.
Some interesting electronics/microcontroller/hacker themed blogs I’m reading these days:
My favorites:
NYC Resistor – Definitely the most interesting hackerspace in the US right now. Updates almost daily. I stand in awe of how prolific these guys/girls are, it seems like they are pushing the envelope of DIY every week. This blog alone makes me want to move to NYC sometimes. (Well, them and ITP.)
The Make: Blog – You could pretty much read this one alone and still stay on top of what’s hot in DIY right now. They usually follow EMSL and NYC Resistor anyway.
And some new (to me) blogs:
DadHacker – This guy wrote Donkey Kong for the Atari. This blog has been around for years, lots 8-bit assembly coding stuff which is fascinating.
That’s it for now. If I missed any good ones, I’d love to hear about them, leave a comment or contact me. You can access all of the blogs I mentioned (and a couple more) from the blogroll to the right.
“Wiring harnesses are an essential and often overlooked part of any electrical system. On a car, a good wiring harness can make the difference between a weekend joyride and a long tow home. Building a quality wiring harness requires a couple inexpensive tools and the right techniques…”
The Maker Faire is an event held twice a year (alternating between San Mateo, California and Austin, Texas) by the folks at Make Magazine, one of my favorite publications from O’Reilly. The event centers on DIY culture, covering everything from making combat robots to felting and needlepoint.
During the Maker Faire I handed out a one page tutorial with information about where to buy the tools and supplies as well as the steps needed to create a template and make a wiring harness from scratch.
